Considering who the Prince George Spruce Kings face on Friday night, it’s a special event.
They will take on the high-flying Penticton Vees, winners of 29 of 31 games this season, in the first of a two-game weekend set at Kopar Memorial Arena and the Spruce Kings will be dressed for the occasion.
On Friday they’ll be sporting their Clayton Gauthier-designed Indigenous jerseys, the uniforms they introduced in their home-opener on Sept. 30.
The Vees (29-2-0-0-0) lead the B.C. Hockey League, having scored 175 goals (5.65 average) and only allowing 57 (1.94 average).
They hold a 27-point lead atop the standings over the fourth-place Spruce Kings (16-11-2-1-0).
The Spruce Kings came out of the Christmas break and took three of a possible four points in a pair of road games in Wenatchee. They beat the Wild 6-5 in overtime Dec. 30 and lost a 6-5 decision in OT the following night.
The Kings are 3-2-1-0-0 in the past six games.
