The Prince George Spruce Kings shared the spoils of victory Thursday night on Surrey.
They pasted the Surrey Eagles 9-0. Nine Kings got in on the scoring act as they began an three-game, three-night B.C. Hockey League roadtrip.
Tavin Grant, the 18-year-old from Burnaby, made 22 saves to notch his first career BCHL shutout. Prince George scored three goals in each period. Drew Lennon, Ben Brar, Ben Poisson, all in the first period, and Kyle Johnson and Ethan O'Rourke, with his first BCHL goal, built a 5-0 lead with 3:15 gone in the second period. That chased Eagles starting goalie Keelan Williams to the bench after he gave up five goals on 18 shots. Daniel Davidson took over in the Surrey nets and allowed four more goals in 36:15 of playing time.
Jarod Hovde, Keegan Ward, Travis Schneider and Brett Mennear added to the count. Mennear's team-leading 24th of the season came while shorthanded late in the game to cap the scoring. Kings defenceman Tyler Anderson finished with two assists.
The Kings' power play went 2-for-5, while Surrey was 0-3 with the man advantage.
The win improved the Spruce Kings' fourth-place Mainland Division record to 21-21-4-2. Surrey (16-29-4-2) remained fifth in the division, 13 points behind Prince George. The Eagles have nine games left in the season while the Spruce Kings have 10.
Prince George moves on to Langley tonight to play the third-place Rivermen (25-15-5-2). Langley is nine points ahead of Prince George, with a game in hand. The Kings wrap up their trip Saturday in Chilliwack.
