The Prince George Spruce Kings dropped their third straight game as they once again had trouble finding the back of the net.
In the middle game of their three games in three nights B.C. Hockey League road trip through the Interior division, the Spruce Kings lost 2-0 to the Penticton Vees at the South Okanagan Events Centre Friday night. The Vees (8-3) opened the scoring 66 seconds into the game when Brad McClure beat Spruce Kings goalie Jesse Jenks.
A shorthanded goal late in the second period from Cody DePourcq gave the Vees a comfortable two-goal cushion. In the final 20 minutes the Spruce Kings (6-6-0-1) outshot the Vees 11-4 but couldn't beat Olivier Mantha, who earned the shutout.
The Spruce Kings are playing without two of their top forwards in Jake LeBrun and Brent Lashuk, both recovering from concussions. LeBrun was knocked out of the Spruce Kings' game last Friday against the Vernon Vipers, while Lashuk suffered his concussion the previous weekend in Coquitlam.
The Spruce Kings began the road trip Thursday with a 4-1 loss in Merritt to the Centennials. Tonight, the Kings wrap up the trip in West Kelowna against the Warriors (10-2-0-1).
