Officially, Connor Russell is listed as a defenceman.
Friday night at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena the 20-year-old from Guelph, Ont., proved rather offensive to the Nanaimo Clippers.
Russell was in on half his team's goals, scoring once and adding two assists to help the Prince George Spruce Kings defeat the visiting Clippers 6-1.
The Kings scored three goals in the third period to break it wide open. Russell started off the period with an unassisted effort. Parker Colley, into an empty net, and Tyler Anderson also found the net for the Kings.
Chong Lee, Jamie Huber and Jarod Hovde also scored for Prince George, who led 3-0 after two periods.
Spencer Hewson's shorthanded effort 14:10 into the third period broke up Tavin Grant's shutout bid.
The Kings outshot Nanaimo 37-24. Grant went the distance in net for Prince George. Evan DeBrouwer and Austin Roden combined in goal for Nanaimo.
The Spruce Kings (11-10-1-2, third in Mainland Division) will host the Surrey Eagles tonight at RMCA. The loss dropped the Clippers' fourth-place Island Division record to 11-11-3-0.
