The Prince George Spruce Kings added more size and experience to their lineup Friday night when they acquired 20-year-old forward Bryan Basilico from the Trail Smoke Eaters in exchange for future considerations.
In the last two seasons with the Smoke Eaters, the six-foot-three, 205-pound Basilico tallied 28 goals and 38 assists in 99 games.
Prior to playing in the B.C. Hockey League, Basilico, a native of Macomb, Mich., spent three years in the U.S. Hockey League with the Sioux Falls Stampede, Des Moines Buccaneers and the Green Bay Gamblers. He is currently committed to playing NCAA Div. 1 hockey in 2016 for Lake Superior State.
"Bryan is a big power forward type player who can put up good numbers offensively," said Spruce Kings general manager Mike Hawes in a media release. "He will add some size, strength, and scoring to our forward group which is something we've been lacking so far this season. His leadership abilities and veteran presence will also be a nice addition to our room."
The 0-4 Spruce Kings have been outscored 22-2 in four games to start the season. They're in Chilliwack this weekend for the BCHL Showcase.
The Kings will battle Trail Saturday at 10 a.m. and the Victoria Grizzlies Sunday at 4 p.m.
