Contrary to the story in Friday's Citizen, Spruce Capital Warriors fighters Thomas Speirs, Marcus Hume and Dan Kragt will not be on tonight's Emerald Gloves tournament.
Instead, they fought on the Adam Trupish-Michael Walchuk Canadian middleweight title fight pro-am card Friday night in Edmonton. Speirs took on Mohamed Nassar of Calgary in a 75-kilogram bout. The 60kg Hume met in the ring with Jamie Taylor of Medicine Hat, and Kragt was engaged in a heavyweight duel with Chris Higgins of Edmonton.
Inner City Boxing Club coach Bob Pegues, who is organizing the Emerald Gloves tournament, told the Citizen on Thursday all three Spruce Capital fighters were on the Emerald Gloves list supplied to him from Boxing B.C.
Speirs was expected to fight Mitch Ott of the Shaolin Boxing Club tonight at the NSC but Spruce Capital coach Wayne Sponagle said that was never arranged, nor did he confirm with Pegues that Hume or Kragt would be part of the Emerald Gloves tournament. Hume was supposed to fight Jag Seehra of Inner City, while Kragt was slated to take on Kristian Witso of Inner City.
