Erickson on target
On his home horseshoe courts, Phil Erickson was tough to beat.
During the Quesnel Spring Opener last weekend, Erickson claimed top spot in two divisions and was second in another. On Saturday, in a playoff with Ciril Novak, he won the men's B/C/D group with a 5-1 record and a ringer percentage of 47.39. Then, on Sunday, Erickson placed first in senior mixed, again with a mark of 5-1. His Sunday ringer percentage was 33.75. In that competition, he also needed a playoff, this time to get past runner-up and fellow Quesnel pitcher Lorenzo Ferrara.
Erickson's second-place showing happened Saturday in the elders 30-feet class. His 5-1 record had him on the heels of Novak, who went 6-0 with a ringer percentage of 47.77.
Ida Boschman of Prince George was victorious in the ladies B division (2-1 record, ringer percentage of 26.66).
Devils down Stylers
Colton Poulin and Nathanial McFayden led the Westwood Pub Devils to a 9-3 win against the Co-op Petroleum Stylers in Prince George Senior Lacrosse Association action on Monday night at Kin 1.
In the game, Poulin had three goals and two assists, while McFayden chipped in with two goals and four helpers. Other marksmen for the Devils were Darian Long, Nathan Hauer, Chris Finden and Adam Wagner.
Stephen Moleski, Nick Hansen and Cam Prouse replied for the Stylers.
The Devils led 5-1 after the first period and 8-2 after the second.
In the league standings, the Devils are second with a 5-3 record and the Stylers sit fourth with a mark of 2-5. The RPR Mechanical/JR Construction Bandits lead the way at 7-2.
Tonight in Quesnel, the Quesnel M. Daniels Consulting Crossfire (5-4, third place) take on the Stylers.
Cougars heading for soccer provincials
The College Heights Cougars begin play at the girls double-A high school soccer provincial championship tournament on Thursday in Kamloops.
For the 16-team event, the Cougars are in a round-robin pool with Pitt Meadows, Collingwood of West Vancouver and Mark Isfeld of Comox. College Heights opens against Pitt Meadows at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Cougars will play their other round-robin matches at 3 p.m. Thursday against Collingwood and 9 a.m. Friday against Mark Isfeld.
Playoffs begin later Friday and the B.C. champion will be decided on Saturday.
