In a world where two terms of office is considered longterm, Lucia Fendelet has certainly bucked the trend.
Now in her 15th season as volunteer president of the Prince George Gymnastics Club, she's struck a perfect balance between her home life and her work at the club, and that's raised the uneven bars and vaulted the club to new levels of success.
Thursday night in Richmond, all those years of putting gymnastics at the head of her list of duties while raising a family of four daughters will be rewarded when Fendelet accepts the Sport B.C Presidential award.
"Before I started with the sport I was a stay-at-home mom and I just grew with it and my staff," said the 45-year-old Fendelet. "Once you start with gymnastics you can't stop. We're a family and I love my staff. The parents and the kids and the board, and the people at Gymnastics B.C. are family to me, too, and we've been together for 15 years. You can't let go of that bond."
