After four years of training, 45 Prince George athletes are less than a month away from competing against British Columbia's best.
The 2013 B.C. Special Olympics Summer Games are being held in Langley, July 11-14, where more than 1,100 athletes will compete and form new lifelong friendships. Along with the athletes there will also be more than 300 volunteer coaches and mission staff from B.C. and the Yukon.
The qualification process happened last year with a regional qualifier and the athletes who do well in Langley put themselves in contention to compete at the 2014 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Vancouver.
Prince George athletes will compete in seven of the 11 events, including power lifting, aquatics, golf, rhythmic gymnastics, 10-pin bowling, five-pin bowling and soccer.
The athletes who will attend the B.C. Special Olympics Summer Games are:
Power lifting - Diana Bramble, James Nikal;
Aquatics - Brian Whitfield, Carla Caputo, David Dunn, Jasmyne Morgan, Josh Pudney, Kathleen Mitchell, Kim Ericson;
Golf - Barbie Conway, Greg Eveneshen;
Rhythmic gymnastics - Angela Hills, Darcie Muzychka, Emily Paterson, Michaela Samsonoff, Nikki George, Rose Bradley, Stephanie Tremblay;
10-pin bowling - Jennifer Germann, Cindy Komoski, Michelle Baxter, Leif Skuggedal, Greg Cole, Chantal Chan, Linda Renner, Dustin Olson, Kelly Hein, Adrian Rosen;
Five-pin bowling - Mathew Brewer, Emilie Snyders, Debbie Bileck, Joseph Mitchell, Yvonne LeRuyet, Jordon Korum;
