Special Olympians make waves in Kelowna

Prince George Special Olympians spent Saturday in the fast lanes capturing top-three finishes at the annual Special Olympics B.C. swim meet in Kelowna.

Thirteen Prince George athletes, who trained twice per week since October, along with those from across the province competed at the meet.

Diana Bramble and Kelly Hein each brought home one gold, a silver and two bronze medals while Carla Caputo claimed one gold, two silver and one bronze.

Greg Cole grabbed one gold, three silver and one bronze medal and David Dunn won all six of his races.

Amanda Glazier captured a silver medal and four bronze and Amy Louro claimed a trio of silver medals to go along with one bronze.

Kathleen Mitchell touched the wall first in all five of her races and Josh Pudney claimed two gold medals and a silver.

Sam Russell grabbed a pair of gold medals, one silver and one bronze, while Mathew Sallenback earned a gold medal and a pair of bronze medals.

Marinka VanHage won a gold medal to go along with two silver medals and Brian Whitfield rounded out the Prince George field with a gold and four silver medals.

The meet was good practice for Dunn, who will compete at the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games in Wood Buffalo near Fort McMurray from Aug. 7-16 .

Dunn is among four Special Olympic B.C. swimmers chosen to represent B.C. at the Games. He has competed for B.C. previously at the Special Olympics Canada national games last summer in Vancouver and at the 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Que.
