Special Olympians make medal haul

There's no medal detector at airport security but no electronic gadgetry was needed to know it was a successful weekend for the Prince George contingent at the B.C. Special Olympics Summer Games. Collectively, they came back with 68 medals.

Swimmer David Dunn earned three golds and three silver in the pool in Langley, while Josh Pudney came back with four silver and one bronze. Other swimming medalists were Kim Erickson (two gold, two bronze), Kathleen Mitchell (one gold, one silver, three bronze) and Jasmyne Morgan (two gold, two silver, two bronze).

Rhythmic gymnasts claimed 28 medals in podium performances by Darcie Muzychka (three gold, two silver, one bronze), Rose Bradley (two gold, one silver, one bronze), Emily Paterson (two silver, one bronze), Nikki George (one gold, two silver, two bronze), Stephanie Tremblay (one bronze), Michaela Samsonoff (one silver, three bronze) and Angela Hills (one silver, four bronze).

In 10-pin bowling, Linda Renner and Jennifer Germann collected bronze in the team event, while the female doubles team of Michelle Baxter and Cindy Komoski won gold. Leif Skuggedal and Greg Cole shared bronze in the male doubles event, while singles shooters Greg Cole and Kelly Hein each won silver medals.

In power lifting, James Nikal hoisted a bronze medal. Barbie Conway shot her way to bronze in golf.

In Division C soccer, the Prince George team of Latoria Isaac, Danny Lafreniere, Robyn Lutz, Tegan Raines, Tracey Robinson, Sam Russell, Marinka VanHage, Ryan Vis, Chris Zorn earned bronze medals.

Jordon Korum struck gold in five-pin bowling and his Prince George teammates Debbie Bileck, Mathew Brewer and Yvonne LeRuyet each won bronze.
