Prince George athletes were fast on their feet during the Special Olympics B.C. Snow Sports Festival, held on West Kelowna's Crystal Mountain last weekend. Nine of them participated in snowshoeing and 10 were on the cross-country ski trails.
In snowshoeing, results in various divisions were as follows: Jasmyne Morgan, gold medals in 100-metre, 200m and 400m and silver in 800m; Tegan Raines, gold in 200m and 400m; Ruth Caldwell, gold in 200m, bronze in 50m; Marinka VanHage, silver in 1,600m, bronze in 800m; Mike Harris, gold in 800m, silver in 200m; Adrian Rosen, gold in 100m, silver in 400m; Chase Caron, silver in 200m; Gwang Yeon Lee, bronze in 100m. Jennifer Germann also took part in snowshoeing.
In cross-country skiing, the results were equally impressive: Diana Bramble, gold in one-kilometre; Rita Cavenaile, gold in 1km, silver in 2.5km; Barb Conway, bronze in 1km, silver in 2.5km; Chantal Chan, bronze in 1km, bronze in 2.5km, gold in 500m; Kim Erickson, gold in 2.5km, bronze in 5km; Casey Westerman, silver in 1km and 2.5km; Josh Pudney, bronze in 2.5km and 5km; Brian Whitfield, gold in 5km, bronze in 7.5km; Danny LaFreniere, silver in 5km and 7.5km. Kelly Hein also represented Prince George in cross-country skiing.
The B.C. Snow Sports Festival was a qualifier for the Special Olympics B.C. Provincial Winter Games next year in Kamloops.
