The Prince George Youth Soccer Association has several camps for young footballers to get excited about in the upcoming weeks.

This weekend, the PGYSA is teaming up with UNBC Athletics to host a goalkeeping clinic for players 13 and older taught by fourth-year Virginia Tech University keeper and former Canadian under-20 player Dayle Colpitts.

The camp goes tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rotary Field with two camps Saturday (10 a.m. to noon, 5-7 p.m.) and Sunday (10 a.m. to noon). A time for Sunday's evening session is TBA. To register for the camp contact UNBC women's soccer coach Andy Cameron at [email protected].

The second camp will be held July 29 to Aug. 2. The clinic for players between 10-18 will work on the basics of goalkeeping techniques and to develop and increase their understanding and confidence in the position. The sessions will be led by UBC's goalkeeping coach and England's former national player Mike Norris.

Coaches will also have the opportunity to work with Norris during two sessions, "Through the eyes of a goalkeeper" and "How does your session impact your goalkeeper and team?" The sessions are designed to help coaches understand what goalkeepers see and think during the game.

Finally, a high performance camp will be offered, Aug. 19-23, under the tutelage of the coaches of the English Premier League Football Club, Stoke City. Players between 10-16 will learn about the training methods used by the top clubs in England. A free coach's clinic will also be offered.

PGYSA fun soccer summer camps are also back this year, held July 15-19 and Aug. 26-30 for children between seven and 12. Activities will take place at Rotary Field.

To register for these camps and clinics go online at www.pgysa.ca or call the office at 250-564-5900.

* PGYSA president John Reed was elected to the B.C. Soccer board of directors for a two-year term at last weekend's annual general meeting. Reed was one of four new directors elected.

Reed will be required to step down from his position as PGYSA president with his new duties. The now-vacant presidency will be dealt with at the next PGYSA board meeting.
