Snowmobiles hitting the strip

There are Mustang drags, and motocross drags. And then there are snow drags. The inaugural Snow Drags goes this weekend at Northland Motorsports Park where snowmobilers have the opportunity to race down a 600-foot snow track against one another.

And then there are snow drags.

The inaugural Snow Drags goes this weekend at Northland Motorsports Park where snowmobilers have the opportunity to race down a 600-foot snow track against one another.

“This is something that hasn’t been done in a long time,” said Richelle Maser, vice-president of the Prince George Snowmobile Club. “We want to get the entire sledding community out. You don’t have to be a member to race.”

The Snow Drags has something for every calibre of sled.

Kids 10-and-under are free with their 120cc machines. Amateur classes include junior and ladies, while regular classes (16-and-older) include 600, 700, 800, 900 Stock, improved and modified, open stock (16-and-older), open (18-and-older) and king class (18-and-older).

The drags are slated for Saturday and Sunday. Registration opens at 8 a.m., while racing follows at 10 a.m.

Spectators are welcome to watch the action. Admission is $10 per person and $5 for pit passes. The track is located at 9285 Raceway Road, off of Chief Lake Road.
