The Fortwood Homes Cougars had a chance for gold but settled for silver in heartbreaking fashion.
The Cougars, the city's peewee Tier 4 rep hockey team, fell 4-3 to Chetwynd in Sunday's championship game of a Mackenzie tournament. Chetwynd scored the winning goal on a penalty shot late in the third period. The disappointing ending capped what had been an otherwise great weekend for the Cats, who posted an overall record of 4-1.
In Sunday's final, the Cougars had a 3-2 lead after two periods of play. Prince George goalscorers were Ashton Kraska, Liam O'Beirne and Micheal Rolfes. Nicholas Husband handled the puck-stopping chores for the Cats.
The Cougars started the tournament with a 3-0 win against Chetwynd and then beat Mackenzie 10-1. After that, the Cats thumped Fort St. John 15-0 and skated to a 7-1 decision against Fort St. James.
