Sibiya: ‘We were fired’

Sipho Sibiya can term it no other way -- he and the two others on the Prince George Fury coaching staff were fired.

Sipho Sibiya can term it no other way -- he and the two others on the Prince George Fury coaching staff were fired.

Here's Sibiya's story of how he and assistants Brad Stewart and Sonny Pawar came to no longer be at the helm of the indoor soccer team.

"We were fired, how else can you put it?" Sibiya, who was also a featured front-line player, said Thursday.

"(Owner John Mehrassa) called me Friday, as we were going to Las Vegas (for a Pro Touch Soccer Academy scholarship showcase), and told me our services were no longer required, that he was going to coach the team.

"We were told that (local businessman) TJ (Grewal) had taken the team over and TJ wanted to go in a different direction. That's what I was told -- I talked to TJ (Thursday) and it's clear I wasn't told the truth. TJ and I have respect for one another, and all is good there."
