Sheen hands out a beating on MMA card

Where there's smoke, chances are there's fire. Especially in the mixed martial arts ring.

Prince George firefighter Clayton Sheen applied the heat to Ryan Knysh of Edmonton and locked him in the grip of a rear naked chokehold to extinguish his hopes of victory 2:24 into the first round of their King of the Cage Nailbiter bout last week in Edmonton.

The 135-pound Sheen, now in his fourth season as part of the Sholty Jiu Jitsu and MMA Club, improved his record to 3-0-0 to move closer to a KOTC title shot in the 135-pound weight class.

"Clayton's shot at a major MMA title fight is not too far around the corner," said Murray Sholty, Sheen's head trainer and coach. "It's just a matter of time."

In other local MMA, KOTC heavyweight champion Adriano Bernardo of Prince George, a member of Sholty MMA, will travel to Edmonton to try to defend his title on Friday, Feb. 26 at KOTC Retaliation against Raphael Bergmann.

Other Sholty fighters on that card are Darrin Shritt, Hank Lukyn and JJ Daoust.
