Shawara picked as player of the month

In six games last month the five-foot-six rookie forward collected eight goals and two assists for 10 points. She has a league-leading 12 goals and five assists for 17 points in 15 games this season, tied with teammate Caily Mellott for the lead in the league scoring race.
"Braxtyn is a hard worker who gives 100 percent every single time she steps on the ice," said Capitals head coach Carl Johnston, whose comments were posted on the league website. "She works very hard to be the best she can in her sport. At only (15) years of age , Braxtyn demonstrates a great level of maturity on the ice.
"Braxtyn is always there to assist in any task. Her teammates and friendships are a top priority to Braxtyn which is evident everyday."
Shawara, a McBride native who celebrated her 15th birthday on Wednesday, helped support the team's involvement in the Inside Ride fundraiser to support children and teen living with cancer. She's also an excellent student, achieving principal's list honours, and volunteers her time at Prince George Gymnastics Club competitions.
The Capitals, who rank second in the league with an 8-6-1 record, are on their bye weekend. They're now preparing for the Mac's female midget tournament which starts Dec. 26 in Calgary. As defending champions, the Capitals open the tournament Dec. 26 against the Calgary Fire.
