The Omenica Ice have melted off the face of the Central Interior Hockey League.

The Vanderhoof-based senior team announced at the CIHL annual general meeting in Smithers its intention to fold and drop out of the league.

The good news on the CIHL front is a replacement has been found with the return of the Hazelton Wolverines.

The nine-team league will continue with a three-division format consisting of Prince Rupert, Kitimat and Terrace in the West; Hazelton, Houston and Smithers in the Central; and Quesnel, Williams Lake and Lac La Hache in the East.

The league also elected to scrap its automatic shootout rule to decide games tied after regulation time. There will now be a five-minute four-on-four overtime period before the shootout ensues.
