Her time with the UNBC Timberwolves was short.
Rookie forward Allison Seinen is no longer a member of the UNBC women's basketball team. The Houston product had been trying to balance basketball and school commitments with family obligations and wasn't able to do it successfully.
"She had a family thing that took her away from school for a week and also two weekends, and she's got another family thing coming up in two weeks' time," said UNBC coach Loralyn Murdoch. "It's not what we're looking for in terms of a commitment at the [Canadian Interuniversity Sport] level so we were forced to make a decision and her to make a choice.
"We sat down and a choice had to be made," Murdoch added. "She had to choose one way or the other and if she chose the way she did, then she would no longer be a part of the program."
Seinen appeared in nine games and scored a total of seven points. She also had three offensive rebounds and five defensive boards.
With the departure of the five-foot-11 Seinen, the Timberwolves are down to just nine players. The T-wolves have four games left to play, two this weekend against the UBC Thunderbirds and two next weekend against the Mount Royal University Cougars.
In her last two years of high school, Seinen was a key member of Houston Christian teams that won back-to-back single-A provincial championship titles. When Murdoch recruited her, the coach said she was the type of player who had limitless potential.
"When we initially spoke, she was kind of undecided whether she wanted to go to college for a couple years first and then come play at UNBC potentially, or if she should come to UNBC first," Murdoch said in June. "I'm really happy that she decided that she wants to come to UNBC right away because I think she'll develop into a very, very nice player."
As for a possible future with the UNBC women's basketball team, the door hasn't completely closed on Seinen. Murdoch plans to speak with her in the off-season regarding her intentions.
