Jag Seehra opened the inaugural Canadian Golden Gloves boxing championships with a bang.

The 23-year-old Inner City Boxing Club fighter from Prince George scored a unanimous decision Wednesday over Dylan Rushton of Ontario in the 60-kilogram weight class.

Seehra, a former national B team member, will take on Brad Katona of Manitoba as the tournament continues today.

Inner City coach Bob Pegues is in Seehra's corner. Pegues is entered in the Ringside Nationals boxing tournament July 31-Aug. 3 in Kansas City, Mo., fighting in the 69 kg category.

In other Inner City news, Kelly Lally, a national A team member, is preparing for the Continental championships, which start Aug. 26 in Santiago, Chile. Lally will be in Montreal for a training camp, Aug. 16.
