The UNBC Timberwolves men's soccer team remains winless on the season after a 3-0 loss to the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades on Saturday afternoon.
The game, played at North Cariboo fields, was scoreless at halftime but the Cascades broke the deadlock early in the second on a goal by James Najman. Later, Fraser Valley struck twice more, the markers in quick succession by Dalibor Plavsic and Koby Byrne.
In the Canada West Universities Athletic Association, the expansion Timberwolves dropped to 0-11 and the Cascades improved to 2-3-4.
The teams will meet again Sunday at noon at North Cariboo fields. The game will be the final home contest of the season for the Timberwolves, who will finish their schedule next weekend against Mount Royal University of Calgary and the University of Winnipeg. Those teams are also new to Canada West this season.
-- In Waterloo, Ont., on Saturday, the Timberwolves men's basketball team defeated the York University Lions 97-89 at the 45th annual Naismith Classic exhibition tournament. Jose Araujo paced UNBC with 28 points, while Sam Raphael added 22. Navjot Bains and Gabe Aubertin both pulled down eight rebounds.
The win came after an 80-71 setback to the host Waterloo Warriors on Friday night.
The Timberwolves will play the Universit du Qubec Montral Citadins on Sunday.
