Nicole Schlick is taking her basketball game from Prince George all the way to the University of Waterloo in southern Ontario.
Schlick, a former standout with the Duchess Park Condors, with whom she averaged 22.5 points per game in her senior year, has committed to the Warriors for the 2015-16 season.
Schlick transferred from UNBC and, after sitting out her first year (2014-15) at Waterloo to transition to university life, the six-foot-two post player made the decision to suit up for the Warriors after following the progress of the team throughout last year's campaign.
"We are really looking forward to having Nicole join our team next season," said Warriors head coach Tyler Slipp in a press release. "She is a strong, athletic post player with good size and will fill some big holes that have been left by our graduating seniors."
Schlick's decision to attend Waterloo was not only for its academics but an opportunity to stay close to boyfriend Mitch Elliot, who made the move from Prince George to Waterloo.
After a five-year Western Hockey League career with the Seattle Thunderbirds, Elliot, a six-foot, 235-pound forward, suited up for the Warriors' men's hockey team last season where he collected 10 points in 27 games.
"Waterloo just seemed like the perfect fit for me with a great campus and focus on academics," said Schlick. "Having the opportunity to be a Warrior with Mitch made perfect sense. I'm very excited to start playing again, and join what seems like a great group of girls."
After her final exams are over, Schlick will return to Prince George for the summer and get back into game shape.
"Nicole is a very determined individual and I know she will put the time in to be ready come Game 1 in 2015," said Slipp. "She has the potential to make an immediate impact."
The Warriors compete in Canadian Interuniversity Sport's Ontario University Athletic Association.
Last season, they posted a 5-15 record and narrowly missed a playoff position in the OUA's West Division.
