Saturday night saw a tightly contested game between the Prince George Spruce Kings and the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, however, it was the Silverbacks that came out on the winning end with a 2-1 win in overtime at the Shaw Centre.

Matthew Tovell was the winning goalie in what turned out to be a battle between the two netminders as he stopped 35 of the 36 shots he faced. Meanwhile, Aiden Feddema stopped 35 of the 37 shots he faced.

In the first period, Charlie Banquier opened the scoring with a blast from just inside the blueline at 8:34. The goal goes down as the defenceman's third of the season. Luca Primerano assisted the play.

The second period went scoreless.

In the third period, Ethan Ullrick finally solved Feddema at 7:10. CJ Foley assisted the play. The goal was Ullrick's sixth of the year.

With the game knotted at 1-1 after regulation, both teams prepared for a five-minute period of 3-on-3 hockey.

With the offence opening up in the final minute of the extra frame, the Spruce Kings found themselves caught in deep inside the attacking zone, opening the way for Ullrick to break the puck loose and escape on a breakaway before shooting the game-winning goal for his second on the night.

Both teams finished the game zero for three on the powerplay

The Spruce Kings come away with a single point to help keep them ahead of the Silverbacks in the Interior Division standings.

Prince George gets ready for a trip to Merritt next Thursday (Nov. 10) against the Centennials.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
