Nechako Valley secondary and College Heights secondary high school cross country runners are off to a good start after the first meet of the season Saturday in Vanderhoof.
In the senior boys 6.4 kilometre race the top three finishers were Alexander Nemethy (NVSS), Colten Illingworth (CHSS) and Isaac Goodrich (CHSS).
The top three senior girls in the 4.3 kilometre race were Olivia Baptiste (Quesnal Jr.), Julia Babicz (CHSS) and Georgia Verduzco (NVSS).
In the boys 4.3 kilometre race, the top three overall winners were Charlie Borek (NVSS), Jonathon Mueller (NVSS) and Simon Nemethy (Williams Lake - McLeod).
NVSS placed first for both girls and boys in the team category. College Heights was second for girls, while the boys of D.P. Todd were the runners-up. The two Quesnel schools, Quesnel Jr. and Correlieu were third and fourth, respectively, for girls and boys.
Other runners from College Heights were: Ben Shand (second, juvenile boys), Bianca Zemliak (fourth, senior girls), Sydney Irving (sixth, senior girls), Ariel Gilbert (seventh, senior girls), Sheridan MacArthur (fourth, junior girls), Cassidy Stella (fifth, junior girls) and Emily Fuller (11th junior girls).
There were 88 runners competing.
The next cross-country meet is Saturday, 11 a.m., at Cottonwood Park in Prince George.
