Alex Nemethy and Erica Kreitz showed off their fleet feet at Ten Mile Lake.
During the Saturday cross country running race, held at the provincial park just north of Quesnel, Nemethy was first across the finish line in the senior boys category and Kreitz was quickest among the senior girls.
Nemethy, representing Vanderhoof's Nechako Valley secondary school, finished his 6.4-kilometre course in a time of 20 minutes 16 seconds. Isaac Goodrich of College Heights secondary placed second (21:28) and Correlieu secondary's Cole Dinsdale was third (21:43).
Kreitz, a Prince George secondary school student, covered 4.3 kilometres in 19:51. She was followed by Danika Robson of Lake City secondary school (20:52) and Julia Steinbach of Nechako Valley (21:03).
Category winners were: bantam boys, Brett Mero (Quesnel junior secondary); juvenile boys, Taro Nakahara (Duchess Park); bantam girls, Georgia Verduzco (Nechako Valley); juvenile girls, Olivia Baptiste (Quesnel junior secondary); and junior girls, Kaitlyn Verduzco (Nechako Valley).
The next event for the runners is a big one -- the north central zone championships, set for Oct. 19 in Vanderhoof.
