The Victoria Royals downed the Prince George Cougars 5-2 on Saturday in the capitol.
Ben Walker, Jack Palmer, Brandon Magee and Axel Blomqvist scored four unanswered goals for the Royals in the first period.
Right winger Klarc WIlson put the Cougars on the scoreboard 2:41 into the second period, with assists from Jordan Tkatch and Troy Bourke. Wilson's goal gave the Cats some momentum, and they outshot the Royals 14-12 in the second period and 11-6 in the third, after having been outshot 11-10 by the Royals in the first.
However, a charging penalty to Zach Pochiro at 11:48 in the second period created an opportunity for the Royals. Less than a minute later, Tkatch and Blomqvist were sent to the sin bin for cross checking and slashing.
During five-on-four hockey Austin Carroll scored for the Royals.
It didn't take Pochiro long to be back in trouble. At 15:50 he and Taylor Crunk were each given a five minute major penalty for fighting.
The Cat's Todd Fiddler scored the only goal in third period at 6:38, after the Royal's Walker took a penalty for roughing.
The Cougars Ty Edmonds stopped 24 of 29 shots. For the Royals, Coleman Vollrath stopped 33 of 35 shots.
The loss drops the Cougars' record to 14-20-2-3. The Cats are in ninth place in the WHL Western Conference, five points behind the Tri-City Americans.
The Cougars road trip continues tonight with a game at 7 p.m. in Vancouver against the Giants.
