It's been a busy month for a local bantam hockey club, but a productive one.

The Roga Contracting Tier 3 squad, which took third place at a tournament in Burns Lake two weeks ago, captured top prize at an event in Grande Prairie.

The team, coached by Budd Wasylyshen, Darren Watson and Hubert Matte, capped an unbeaten journey by defeating Whitecourt 4-1 thanks to two early goals and a 16-save performance from goaltender Jeremy Matte.

Nate Bellamy and Gage Wasylyshen spurred the Prince George team to a 2-0 lead, and Gabe Mason and Adam Quinn connected in the second period to provide all the scoring Roga Contracting would need.

It was the second win of the tournament over Whitecourt -- to open things, Prince George managed a 5-3 decision with Mason scoring twice and Tyson Peters stopping 14 shots.

Prince George also defeated Fort St. John -- 9-4, with three goals by Tyson Watson and six of the nine markers coming with the man-advantage -- and the host team -- 3-2, outshooting Grande Prairie 31-17 -- to advance to the final.
