The Rush, an open B ringette team formed by the best 18-and-over players in the city, went undefeated at a tournament in Burnaby last weekend. In the division championship game, the Rush edged Vancouver 2-1.

The Prince George squad, with a go-ahead goal in the dying seconds, started the event with a 5-4 victory against Vancouver. The Rush also beat Port Coquitlam 10-1, North West Vancouver 11-3 and Burnaby 10-0. In the playoff semifinal round, Prince George faced Burnaby again and skated to a 7-0 victory.

Rush goaltender Lisa Matzelle allowed just nine goals in the six games.

The Rush defenders -- Kylie Bird, Nicole Crandell, Joey Matzelle, Stephanie Thompson and Caitlin Zacharias -- played huge roles in the team's golden weekend. On offence, Saynia Pickering and Aimee Qualizza led the way with nine goals each, while Layne Ongman and Rory Bird scored eight apiece. Justine Lamothe, Sydney Irving and Brooklyn Howard were also part of the Rush attack.

Coaches are Madeleine Crandell, Brian Crandell and Art Lamothe.

The next tournament for the Rush is Jan. 10-12 in Richmond.

At last weekend's Joy Hoffman Memorial ringette tournament in Prince George, Western Industrial Contractors -- a team coached by Devin Atkinson and John Martin -- went through without a single loss.

WIC skated to a 9-2 victory against Quesnel, battled to a 4-4 deadlock with Terrace and downed Houston 7-3.

Team members are Matyas Mocilac, Sasha Mocilac, Jessica Hainstock, Taryn Atkinson, Tessa Sturgeon, Daniel Sturgeon, Jared Nelson, Jenna Rea, Jedaia Stussi Bird, Emma Watson and Meghan Watson.
