The second North Central zone high school cross-country meet was held last Saturday at D.P. Todd secondary school as the the students prepare for the provincial championship, Nov. 3, in Prince George.
In the girls 4.4 kilometre distance Emma Balaza of Kelly Road secondary took first place followed by Danika Robson (Williams Lake), Erica Kreitz (PGSS), Fiona Raymond (D.P. Todd) and Cirra Verduzco (NVSS).
The boys 6.4 kilometre race was won by Neckako Valley's Alexander Nemethy beating out Austin Bartell (PGSS), Zach Matyas (DPSS), Issic Goodrick (CHSS) and Jonathon Schultz (Vanderhoof - Northside Christian).
In the boys 4.4 kilometre short race, the D.P. Todd Trojans Arik Anbrescheefski crossed the finish line first, followed by Jonathon Mueller (NVSS), Charlie Borek (NVSS), Owen Stewart (DPSS) and Brannan Schwartz (Quesnel).
In the junior high two-kilometre races it was a Vanderhoof sweep of the boys and girls titles. Simon Nemethy (WL McLeod) came first for boys followed by Anthony Preston (P.G. Lakewood) and Hyatt Verduzco (WL McLeod).
In the girls race, it was Georgia Verduzco (WL McLeod) placing first followed by Payton Mueller (Vanderhoof - Evelyn Dickson) and Kristi Illingworth (CHSS).
