Playoffs in the Prince George Women's Recreational Hockey League are almost ready to set blade to ice.

The opening game, one week from today, will see third-place Acme Edge take on the fourth-place Cat Rental Store Hericanes at the Coliseum (7:15 p.m.). The other first-round game will feature the second-place Niven Contracting Hornets and the fifth-place Boston Pizza Vortex (Thursday, March 31, 6:45 p.m., Coliseum).

The winner between the Edge and the Hericanes will advance to face regular-season champion BX Pub on Friday, April 1 (7:30 p.m., Elksentre).

Playoffs will follow a double-knockout format. The championship final is scheduled for April 6 (7:30 p.m.) at the Elksentre.

The league's annual general meeting will be held May 5 at UNBC (6:30 p.m., Room 9-200). Everyone is welcome to attend.

Gymnasts go wild in Kamloops

Milan Knight shot down her competition at the Kamloops Wild West Fest.

At the weekend gymnastics meet, Knight claimed the all-around title in the Level 5 novice/open category. Individually, she placed first on vault, balance beam and floor exercise and second on uneven bars.

Knight's performance was part of a strong weekend for Prince George gymnasts as a whole. Mekenna Parker, Mary Kate Dalla Lana and Brooklyn Nicholson all secured second all-around in their categories, while Lina Goto was third.

In other results, Naraa Little, Rhiana Palfy and Shayna McCormick finished sixth in their groups and Krystal Gregory was eighth.

At the Gymstart level, Dallyn Long, Kaylee Watt, Kamryn Ellery, Macyn Unger, Rachel Massey and Vienna Wise all participated and were awarded silver or gold medals for skills and physical ability.
