The Westwood Pub Rec Hockey League is on a recruiting drive to find players for its Co-ed Division.
Formerly known as the Novice Division, which was introduced last season, the grouping caters to women of all abilities and men who are relatively new to hockey.
So far, with the Co-ed season about to begin in a couple weeks, the division has three teams and league administrator Al Hines is on a mission to fill out the roster of a fourth team.
"It's mostly women hockey players but there are a few guys playing as well," said Hines. "We had three teams play all last year and it turned out quite good. There was parity and they were all quite happy, but we want to get to a fourth team and then we'll have a solid division."
A three-team division means the same teams would play a bit too often and Hines says having a fourth team in the Co-ed Division will create variety and make it easier for the league to schedule its games.
"I've got 13 or 14 people interested in forming this fourth team and we just need three or four more women hockey players or entry-level guys who are interested in giving hockey a try," said Hines.
"We've got two goalies for the team already. It's going to be a go, for sure."
The Co-ed players will have their first organizational practice sometime in the week of Oct. 18-24 and the first games will be scheduled for the last week of October. All games will be on Wednesday and Sunday evenings. The registration cost per player for a 35-game season is $500.

The league now has 49 teams, the most in its history, and a fourth Co-ed team would bring the number to 50.
"The most we ever had before this was 47 a couple years ago," said Hines. "With the reconstruction of Kin 1 and the Canada Winter Games last year we weren't able to expand. This year we added three more Rec C teams. We have close to 1,000 players. Last year we had 999 players with 46 teams."
