Prince George girls take second at Kelowna tournament

The Prince George Kodiaks U-16 Red girls team turned in a solid performance this past weekend at the Kelowna Volleyball Club KRUSH tournament. Seeded in the top pool, the Kodiaks won two of three matches and finished second in the 12-tearm tournament.

The Prince George Kodiaks U16 Red club volleyball team went the distance over the weekend at the Kelowna Volleyball Club’s KRUSH tournament.

They went 2-1in pool play to advance to the championship match and forced and third and deciding set but lost it by the slimmest of margins, dropping a 15-13 decision to Ducks Volleyball of Coquitlam.

The teams split the opening two sets with the Ducks winning the opener 25-20, followed by a 26-18 second-set Kodiaks’ win.

The matchup with the Ducks was a rematch from last year’s club provincial final, which the Kodiaks won.

The Kodiak Red roster includes: Eva Allen, Tyler Dahl, Maggie Glover, Rielle Hamilton, Avery Johansen, Nadia Lennox, Camryn Maclachlan, Hailey Silva, Bella Saro, Delaney Turner, Emma Young, Olivia Young.

Jon Glover and Carly Connor share the coaching duties with head coach Marl LaFleur.

Twelve teams entered the tournament including the Prince George Kodiaks Black U16s, who finished 11th with a 1-2 record.

Their next club tournament action happens Feb. 10-11 in the Lower Mainland in the Fraser Valley Super Series event.
