Viliam Kmec is on his way to becoming a Golden Knight.
The Prince George Cougars defenceman signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Las Vegas NHL team Monday after taking part in the Knights' development camp in July.
In 2023-24, he skated in 58 of the Cougars' 68 games during his third season in Prince George and ranked second on the club in points from the blue line with 34 (9 goals, 25 assists) and had a plus-39 rating.
The native of Kosice, Slovakia represented his country at the U20 World Junior Championship in 2024, recording four points (4 A) in five games.
He recently helped lead the Vegas rookies to a 3-0-0 record at the 2024 Rookie Faceoff in Los Angeles, with a goal and two assists in the three contests.
Kmec was expected to return to the Cougars this week.
