Sarah Pousette's first Olympic experience was captured by the eyes of a painter.
A photograph of Pousette standing on the ice in her speed skates at Richmond Oval as Christine Nesbitt of Canada celebrated her gold-medal win in the 1,000-metre long track speedskating event was the inspiration for a painting by a Vancouver artist.
Chances are that painting will be presented to Nesbitt and could end up hanging in her living room. If that's the case, the image of Pousette, an aspiring Olympian from Prince George, will be there as well, sharing the biggest moment of Nesbitt's skating career.
It took a chance meeting on a SkyTrain ride from the rink for Pousette to connect with artist, who even asked Pousette to help him finish the painting as they rode the train.
"That will be a great memory," said Pousette.
"I know Christine wasn't expecting to win it, she was so pumped about it."
