The Prince George Posse had a chance to ride away with B.C. bronze but couldn't silence the guns of the Nanaimo Timbermen.
On Monday in Vancouver, the Posse faced the Timbermen in the bantam A2 bronze-medal game of the B.C. Lacrosse Association provincial championships. At the final buzzer, Nanaimo players celebrated an 8-2 victory.
The Posse, coached by Blake McIntosh and Doug Schonewille, finished the tournament with a 2-3 record. The team started with an 8-6 Saturday win against Semiahmoo and, that night, fell 9-4 to Saanich. On Sunday, the Posse got back in the win column with a 9-2 victory against Vancouver but then dropped a 7-3 decision to Burnaby.
In Monday's gold-medal final, Burnaby edged Saanich 5-4.
Members of the Posse are Jake Nohr, Fisher O'Brien, Matt Magrath, Sean Meehan, Konner McIntosh, Jackson Parish, Connor Dionne, Liam Froese, Riley Stevens, Ethan Porter, Grayson Pement, Marshall Schonewille, Stuart Vassallo, Jaydon Merritt, Daniel Sturgeon and Rhys Vassallo.
The Prince George peewee Posse, led by coaches Jeff Parish and Ken Barwise, will play in the A2 provincial championship, Friday through Sunday in Richmond. The Posse's opening game is Friday at noon against the host team. On Friday night, Prince George will battle Port Moody and, on Saturday, will face Cowichan Valley.
Other teams in the tournament are Kelowna, Surrey, North Shore and Saanich. The medal games are scheduled for Sunday at 12:30 p.m. (bronze) and 1 p.m. (gold).
