On the day the Portland Winterhawks could potentially move to within one victory of their second-straight WHL championship, the Cariboo Cougars announced Wednesday one of their own recruits has made it to the Winterhawks' 50-player protected list.

Forward Austin Gray, 17, who played midget Tier 1 hockey last season for the Coast Inn of the North Cougars, is expected to play in the B.C. Hockey Major Midget League for the Cariboo Cougars in 2014-15. As an affiliated player with the Prince George Spruce Kings this past season he scored one goal in two BCHL games.

Heading into the fourth game of the WHL championship series Wednesday in Edmonton, the Winterhawks had a 2-1 lead over the Oil Kings in the best-of-seven series.
