The PGSS Polars put the freeze on the Kelly Road Roadrunners in high school basketball city league games on Wednesday night.
Playing at Kelly Road, the PGSS senior boys rolled to an 80-47 victory and the PGSS senior girls prevailed 53-26.
Also Wednesday night, the host College Heights Cougars beat the Cedars Christian School Eagles 74-26 in boys action, while the Cedars girls outlasted the College Heights girls 62-45. In another senior boys game, this one played at Duchess Park, the Condors used home-court advantage and downed the D.P. Todd Trojans 66-54. Montell Lindgren scored 25 points for Duchess and Eric Kidwell added 16.
No city league games are scheduled next week because of exams. The league will return with playoff semifinal contests on Feb. 6. Championship finals are slated for Feb. 13 at the Northern Sport Centre.
The Duchess Park boys and Cedars girls are defending city champions.
Host Trojans grab gold
The D.P. Todd Trojans were sharp on offence and tenacious on defence. The combination made them unbeatable at their own high school basketball tournament last weekend.
The Trojans, in the junior B boys division, defeated the PGSS Polars 39-25 in the championship game. Earlier in the event, they ran to victories against the College Heights Cougars (58-49) and the Nechako Valley Vikings of Vanderhoof (52-30).
Key performers for the Trojans during the tournament were Ryan Bennett, Brenden Bhatoa, Jacob Frame, Danny Rockwell, Mathew Enns, Boyd Marchand and Tommy Blaauw.
