The Prince George Polars' sack attack is intact.
They got their fill of quarterback sandwiches on the high school football field last weekend in Kamloops, tossing Robert Bateman Timberwolves pivot Keegan Vicklund to the turf no fewer than 15 times on the way to a 19-0 playoff victory.
PGSS defensive ends Spencer Vohar and Juhar Sandhu each had four sacks, while defensive tackles Rylan Anderson and Nick Von Bieker and linebackers Johnny Tatla and Trent Price also shared in the feast.
"That made a big difference," said PGSS offensive co-ordinator Don Williams. "That was a really good team we played and their defence was awesome and we came out on top."
After making Northern Conference history as the first team to win a B.C High School Football Association double-A varsity playoff game, the Polars know it won't be so easy to trap Carson Graham Eagles quarterback Tyler Nylander behind the line of scrimmage when they play the Eagles in a provincial quarterfinal today at noon at Hillside Stadium in Kamloops.
The Polars defence will try to key on Nylander, whose mobility out of the pocket made him the Eagles' second-leading rusher, averaging 11.77 yards per carry.
Nylander likes to hand the ball to running back Flynn Heyes, who picked up an average of 121 yards per game in the regular season and scored seven touchdowns in four games.
Last week in a 35-12 preliminary playoff round win over the Hugh Boyd Trojans, Heyes ran for 176 yards on 17 carries and three touchdowns. The Polars have been studying the game film this past week and they know what to expect from their North Vancouver-based opponents.
"They're not as strong a defensive team as (Bateman) but their offence looks like it's better," aid Williams. "If we play our game we have a pretty good chance to win. What we're hoping on offence is to get our running game going a little better than we did against Bateman, and that was honestly a reflection of their defence.
"We're hoping to get our passing game going as well this game. We could have had two TD passes in our last game, they were perfect passes (from Kaiden Witso), right on the money, but they defended them well."
The Eagles (7-3) lost just one regular-season game (to John Barsby, the defending provincial champions) and are the second-ranked Western Conference team. The Polars (6-0) have yet to lose this season.
The winner advances to the provincial semifinals next week against the winner of Saturday's Holy Cross-G.W. Graham quarterfinal at B.C. Place Stadium. In other double-A varsity quarterfinal matchups Saturday, Barsby plays Abbotsford in Nanaimo, while Vernon faces Langley at B.C. Place.
Meanwhile, in the junior varsity division, the Duchess Park Condors meet the Mission Roadrunners tonight at 7 in a quarterfinal playoff in Chilliwack.
The Condors (6-0) advanced after a 25-17 win over Vernon a week ago in a preliminary round playoff in Kamloops. The PGSS junior squad was eliminated from provincial title contention with a 60-52 loss last week to Westsyde of Kamloops.
