They've been in practice mode since the season began three weeks ago.
Now it's just about time to put on their race faces.
Swimmers from the Prince George Pisces Swim Club will dive into their first meet of the season starting with heat races Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Aquatic Centre. The two-day meet marks the beginning of the season for northern B.C. clubs that are part of the B.C. Summer Swimming Association. Close to 100 swimmers from Prince George, Dawson Creek, Fort St, John, Quesnel and Mackenzie are entered.
"It's the very first meet of the season and the kids are pretty stoked," said Emily Yao, the Pisces promotions and communications director.
The meet wraps up for the day Saturday at about 4:30 p.m. and resumes Sunday at 8 a.m. The last races will end at about 1:30 p.m. With the exception of the lane pool and the dive tank, the pool will remain open to the public during the races.
The 2014 Pisces schedule includes meets in Dawson Creek, May 31 to June 1; Quesnel, June 14-15; Fort St. John, June 28-29; and Mackenzie, July 19-20. Prince George will also host the regional championships Aug. 2-3 at the Aquatic Centre, a meet that serves as a qualifier for the provincial championships in Kamloops, Aug. 14-17.
