Nicolas Pierog needed just 10 seconds to get into the scoring act at the expense of the Prince George Spruce Kings.
By the end of the Friday night game, the 20-year-old Surrey Eagles forward had two more goals to add to his collection in a 6-1 triumph over the
visiting Spruce Kings.
Pierog scored twice in the third period to break open a close game and Brett Mulcahy and Jonah Renouf, on a late-game power play, also put pucks behind Prince George goalie Alex Murray to put the game out of reach.
Pierog's performance took the sheen off Brogan O'Brien's first BCHL goal, which briefly tied the game in the second period.
Danton Heinen fired the game-winner late in the second period, four minutes after O'Brien scored.
Shots were 29-28 in favour of the Kings. Devon Fordyce, a former Prince George Cougar, picked up the win in the Surrey nets.
The Kings will get another crack at the Eagles tonight in Surrey, then shift over to Langley Sunday afternoon to play the first-place Rivermen
(9-4-0-1).
The third-place Spruce Kings (7-7-0-1) are one point ahead of the fourth-place Eagles (7-8-0-0) in the BCHL Mainland Conference standings.
