The Prince George Youth Soccer Association is facing a coaching crunch.

With the outdoor season slated to start on May 5, the PGYSA still needs 15 to 20 people who are willing to lead from the sidelines a couple nights per week. The age groups most in need of help range from eight-year-olds to 18-year-olds, boys and girls.

"I think we may end up having to make up some teams without coaches being in place and then hopefully getting a coach afterwards," said Len McNamara, PGYSA executive director. "Ideally, it would be nice to have coaches within the next seven to 10 days so they can be put on a team and then those coaches can contact the teams."

The PGYSA, the largest minor sports organization in the city, has about 2,500 players registered for the 2012 season.

Typically, teams will play two games each week at Rotary Fields.

Previous coaching experience in any sport would be an asset, but McNamara said it's not essential.

"I would say at this point you can be at an entry level," he said. "If you don't know a lot about soccer, that's fine. A lot of the divisions and teams that we're talking about, they're just playing games so you're coming out and coaching for the two hours a week. There's not a lot of practice time. And yet, we do have some manuals and some coaching help from our technical side that can assist you."

Interested individuals are asked to contact the PGYSA office at 250-564-5900.
