PGTFC athletes make JD medal podium

On the cusp of bigger things to come as they progress up the competitive ladder, a group of 18 athletes from the Prince George Track and Field Club offered a glimpse of the future over the weekend at the B.C.

On the cusp of bigger things to come as they progress up the competitive ladder, a group of 18 athletes from the Prince George Track and Field Club offered a glimpse of the future over the weekend at the B.C. junior development championships in Kamloops.

They came home with 12 individual medals and three podium results in team relay events.

Thirteen-year-old Tyrell Laing left with a fistful of hardware, placing first in the long jump, and second in each of the 100-metre, 200m and 300m runs.

Keiran Leboe, also 13, won the hammer throw and was second in the shot put.

Tanner Matheson, 12, posted second-place results in the 60m run and high jump and won bronze in the 100m race. Lauren Matheson, 12, ran to silver in the 200m race,was third in the 100m sprint, and fourth in the 200m. Brady Miller, 11, claimed silver in the 1,000m run, was fourth in 600m run and fourth in the javelin throw.

Ryan Gaiesky just missed a medal in the 13-year-old boys 200m hurdles, placing fourth, and was fifth in the triple jump. Shelby Jansen was fifth in the 12-year-old girls 100m

The PGTFC 12-year-old girls 4X100m relay team of Kendal Samuelson, Jessica Pallot, Lauren Matheson and Jansen won gold in 57.19 seconds. In the 12-year-old boys 4X100m relay, Kienan Miller, Brady Miller, Tanner Matheson and Regin Olson-Gray, a fifth-place finisher in the nine-year-old boys 600m race, teamed up to win the silver medal in 1:08.04.

The 13-year-old boys 4X100m relay team also struck medal success. Gaiesky, Leboe, Laing and Jared Hicks won silver in 56.54.
