The Jessie Withey rink rolled to a convincing victory at the juvenile girls Zone 8 playdown and will now represent the region at the B.C. Winter Games, Feb. 25-28 in Penticton.
In the playdown, held Jan. 9 at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club, Withey swept a best-of-two affair against Ashley Holyk of 100 Mile House. Withey - who plays out of the PGGCC - won the first game 15-1 and took the second 11-1.
The other members of the Withey rink are third Carly Connor, second Hannah Lindner, lead Carsyn Hamilton and coach Doug Dalziel.
Withey and company will have some familiar faces with them at the Games, as a PGGCC team skipped by James Brown won the juvenile boys Zone 8 tournament on the same weekend. Brown and his team of third Alasdair Wilson, second Tyler Slaney and lead Spencer Gamache went undefeated in three games. Brown downed Michael Nielsen of 100 Mile House 10-4 and then defeated Ethan Sikiric - also of 100 Mile -11-0. Then, in what proved to be the deciding game, Brown edged Sikiric 8-7 by way of a comeback. In that one, Brown trailed 7-4 going into the last end. But, with the hammer in his possession, he scored four points when Sikiric was short of the house with his last rock.
The other members of the Brown rink are fifth player Andrew Sherstan and coach Bill Fisher.
