Five cars race around the oval at PGARA Motor Speedway on Sunday during a WESCAR heat race on July 22.

The smoke-show celebration on the track from the winning driver in Saturday's Tri-City street stock series main event will likely pale in comparison to the wildfire haze now choking the city.

There's a chance the fans in the stands might not even see that burning rubber.

But despite the unhealthy breathing conditions, the show must go on.

Drivers from Williams Lake, Quesnel, Fort St. John and Terrace will be hauling their race cars up to the three-eighths mile oval at Prince George Auto Wrecking PGARA Speedway for the second stop in the three-race series, which gets underway tonight.

Also on the racing slate tonight are the Prince George Auto Racing Association local series races - Chieftain Auto Parts mini stock, Tri-Par RV hornets, and pro minis. Time trials are at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m.

Racing in the Canadian Tire street stock series will resume Sunday afternoon, along with the other three PGARA classes, at the Lordco Auto Parts/Zimmer Auto Group Street Stock Invitational. Qualifying begins at 1 p.m., with racing at 2 p.m.

Arnie Kunka of Williams Lake won the opening race of the Tri-City series July 1 at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Williams Lake, winning the 75-lap feature over second-place Byron Hesselgrave and third-place Ryan Wade. Kunka, who won the main event at PGARA last year, is the defending series champion.

Round 3 of the Tri-City series is set for Goldpan Speedway in Quesnel, Sept. 15.

Darrell Horwath leads the Canadian Tire street stock points standings with 64 points, seven ahead of Lyall McComber and 15 in front of third-place Shane Murphy.

In pro minis, Jeremy Floer leads with 49 points, followed by Cory Closson with 41 and Terry Braman, who has 35.

Floer ranks third in the Chieftain Auto Parts mini stock points race with 115, trailing leader Nathan Linfitt, who has 129 points, and second-place Spencer Forseth, with 118.

Tristan Brovold, with 54, has a three-point edge on Keely Rommell atop the hornet class, with Warren McCann third with 32.
