Prince George's Under-14 ringette all-stars skated to a win and a loss on the opening day of their provincial championship tournament.
Friday in Surrey, the Hart Modular Homes/PPWC No. 9 squad battled to a 5-2 victory against Port Coquitlam and then fell 8-3 to Westside of Kelowna.
Against PoCo, Hart Modular used a balanced offensive attack to prevail, with goals from five different players. Marksmen were Keira Meroniuk, Darian Campbell, Marinus de Dreu, Rebecca Landry and Will de Dreu.
In the setback against Westside, Meroniuk and Landry added to their goal totals, while Ally Boyes also hit the scoresheet.
Today, the local all-stars will take on Northwest Vancouver and Fraser Valley.
Two other Prince George teams -- the Rush and the Andrew Kemp Lawyer and Mediator all-stars -- are also at provincials.
In the 18-and-over group, the Rush won its opening game 6-4 against Delta. Layne Ongman, with three goals, held the hot stick for Prince George. Rory Bird, Kristen Tooms and Nicole Leblanc all fired singles in the game. The Delta team featured former Prince George resident Amanda Asay and she made her mark with a hat trick.
The Rush faced Vancouver on Friday night.
Meanwhile, the Andrew Kemp club dropped a 6-5 decision to Westside in the Under-16 division. Prince George goals were courtesy of Jennifer Dahl (2), Peter Nicholson, Alicia Nicklen and Lindsay Gervais.
The all-stars met Shuswap on Friday night.
