The time is now to nominate future candidates for the Prince George Sports Hall of Fame.

The time is now to nominate future candidates for the Prince George Sports Hall of Fame.

Seventy-five inductees now grace the hall with their presence and a new round of applications is being gathered by the committee, which determines who gets into the hall for the next induction ceremony in the spring of 2018.

Nomination forms are available online at

www.pgsportshalloffame.org. The deadline to submit an application is Sept. 9. The website outlines the qualifying criteria for each category under consideration for hall of fame status.

Athletes and teams must have attained excellence in national or international levels and their sporting achievements must have resulted in bringing honour or recognition to Prince George.

Each is required to have been born, attended school or lived in Prince George a minimum of seven or eight years. They also must have competed in one of the sports the hall recognizes.

Coach/builders must have lived in the community for at least 10 years and also must have coached or promoted their sport in the Prince George area for a decade or more.

The hall also has categories for administrators, professional athletes, pioneer athletes (prior to the 1960s) and officials. The inductees already in the hall and their plaques are on display in three city locations - the Kin Centre atrium, Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre and The Exploration Place museum at Lheidli T'enneh Memorial Park.

"People like to be able to see all the new inductees as they come along," said PGSHF director Kathy Mears,

A date for the induction ceremony and banquet, the 12th in the 20-year-history of the Prince George Sports Hall of Fame, will be finalized later this year once the committee has determined the number of new inductees.
