At the B.C. Senior Games last week in Kamloops, the Prince George contingent of the Zone 9 team earned five medals in tennis. In the mixed doubles (60-64) category, Rob Prideaux and Jan Leong won gold, while Jennifer Clarke also brought home the gold medal in the women's singles (75-79) category. Clarke also earned a silver medal in the women's singles (70-74) division and a bronze medal in the women's doubles (70-74) along with partner Judy Croome. In the women's doubles (60-64) group Jan Leong and Sue Bond won the silver, while the men's doubles team of Prideaux and Garth Jarman lost in the bronze medal match and finished fourth.
Prince George Track and Field club members led the parade to the podium at the B.C. Senior Games in Kamloops last weekend among athletics competitors.
Meanwhile, local seniors picked up 45 medals including 20 gold in track and field.
Tom Ukonmaanaho led the way with four gold medals and two silver medals. He earned gold in the men's 65-69 year old 100 metre dash, high jump, pole vault and the 100m hurdles, while picking up second place in the javelin and 200m dash.
The north-central region finished seventh among the regions at the games.
In his first senior games, Brian Martinson won two gold medals in the the men's 55-59 1,500m and 800m middle-distance races and picked up silver medals in the 10k road race and javelin.
Tom Masich returned home with a pair of bronze medals, finishing third in the men's 75-79 pentathlon and third in the weight throw.
Former sportscaster Kelly Sharp won bronze in the men's 55-59 year old 400m race, while his wife Suzanne earned three gold medals in the women's 55-59 category in the 800m, 10k road race and the 5,000m power walk.
Other medals include Zena Campbell (bronze in hammer throw), Penny Jacob (bronze, 5,000m power walk), Arna Kristian (two gold, three silver), Bob Loseth (silver, bronze), Cris MacDonald (three silver, one gold, one bronze), David McGraw (two gold, one silver), Ewing McLaren (two silver, one gold), Linda Meise (gold, silver, bronze), Keith Taylor (three gold) and Dick Voneugen (gold).
