It's so far so good for Prince George's U16 B Ringette squad.
They sport a 1-1 record at the B.C. Ringette A and B Provincial Ringette championship that began Friday on home ice at the Kin rinks.
Prince George opened the tournament with a 6-5 win over Terrace, but lost 5-3 to Shuswap late Friday afternoon.
"They've all been pretty close games," said U16 B Prince George coach Stacey Brown. "It's really anybody's game [as to who wins the championship]. It's really nice for the team to play their games in front of family and friends."
Twenty-three squads from across the province, including Prince George U14 B and U16 B teams, began play on Friday and will continue until Sunday with the gold medal rounds.
The teams competing are the top A and B level qualifying teams from each of the four regional leagues across B.C. - the Lower Mainland, Thompson Okanagan, Northern Ringette and Vancouver Island.
Other divisions include U14 and U16 A divisions, and U19 A.
Prince George's U16 B side scored four goals in the first period and two more in the second period for its 6-5 win over Terrace.
Emily Blagdon netted a pair of goals, while Tess Tuininga, Darian Campbell, Nadine Kwiatkowski and Alicia Nicklen tallied singles to secure the win.
"We have a huge team with 19 players, we rely on everybody to win by the end of the game," said coach Stacey Brown. "We have passers, scorers and checkers. Everybody has to be on their toes and keep their feet moving."
The three teams will face off against each other again today in the double round-robin format.
Prince George battles Shuswap at 1:45 p.m. at Kin 3 and Terrace at Kin 2 at 6 p.m.
The second and third-ranked teams after the round-robin will play for bronze Sunday at Kin 3 at 9:30 a.m. with the winner advancing to the gold medal final.
The top team goes straight to Sunday's gold medal final at 4:15 p.m. at the Coliseum.
In U14 B action, Prince George edged Shuswap 4-3 in their second game Friday.
Alexi Christieson scored Prince George's first goal in the first period for a 1-1 tie. She then added two more and Martina Spooner scored a single tally to earn the win.
Prince George opened the tourney Friday morning with a 5-5 tie against Quesnel.
Sarah Irving scored two goals in the first period and William de Dreu added another to give the host squad a 3-1 lead after the first period.
They scored two more goals in the second period thanks to goals from Christieson and Keira Meroniuk.
Quesnel answered in the second period with a hat trick by Steven Jaroszuk and a single tally from Sami Skinner for the 5-5 tie.
Today, the U14 B squad battles Kelowna at 2:15 p.m. and Vernon at 6:45 p.m. Both games are at the Coliseum.
The top team after the round-robin advances straight to the gold medal final Sunday at 12:45 p.m. at Kin 2. The second and third-ranked teams will face off for bronze at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at the Coliseum, with the winner of the game going to the gold medal final.
