P.G. judokas capture gold at Games

A pair of Prince George athletes stood atop the podium with gold medals around their necks Saturday at the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games.

Kimiko Kamstra of the Hart Judo Club and Lisa Russell of the Prince George Judo Club claimed the gold medals representing Team B.C.

Kamstra defeated Delayne Rowland in the final of the under-44-kilogram female division to win gold in Fort McMurray, while Russell beat Brenna Bagnell of Saskatchewan in the under-52kg female division to capture her gold medal.

Team B.C. judokas, led by provincial coaches Bruce Kamstra of the Hart Judo Club and Aline Strasdin of PGJC, won five gold medals, one silver and a bronze.

The team judo competition continues Monday.
